The Sawatch Energy Resource Center (SERC) focuses on the strategic, sustainable and profitable development of renewable energy products derived from locally managed resources. Anticipated products during initial operation include:

• Activated Carbon ­Charcoal is carbon. Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms.
• Wood pellets, which are manufactured from beetle-killed timber and other forest residues and used for residential and commercial heating
• Biochars, also derived from dead timber and used to capture heavy metals at mining reclamation sites and to stimulate revegetation
• Syngas, which is produced by the gasification of biomass, and which serves as a precursor to multiple forms of industrial fuel.
