Dr. Evans began his career in oceanography and in agriculture. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island in Resource Chemistry, where he worked on the development of a process for the conversion of biomass to hydrocarbon fuels based on simulations of petroleum formation. As a Senior Scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory for 26 years, he worked in biomass thermochemical conversion and hydrogen technologies and systems, focusing on practical problems in the development of biomass conversion systems. In 2005, he co-founded MicroChem Technologies Inc., along with his partner Doris McCormick.
